Music education plays a vital role in children’s development and its importance goes beyond learning to play an instrument: through music children can express emotions, foster their creativity, and improve key skills that will serve them in all areas of life.
The importance of early music education in children lies in the following (among other things):
+ music stimulates brain development: several studies show that there is a direct relationship between early music education and language and math skills in children as music teaches them to discern patterns and sequences, which is essential for understanding mathematical concepts and language acquisition,
+ music fosters coordination and fine motor skills: when children learn to play a musical instrument, they are exercising precise hand-eye coordination as well as the use of small muscle groups which contributes to the development of their physical dexterity,
+ music is a tool for social-emotional development: participating in group musical activities helps children develop social and emotional skills such as empathy, cooperation, and self-expression. Music provides a safe and accessible medium for children to express their emotions,
+ music instills discipline and responsibility: learning to play an instrument requires regular practice and dedication which teaches children the value of effort and perseverance in achieving long-term goals,
+ music can be a source of joy and a means to relieve stress in children: fostering the ability to enjoy and create music from an early age is a gift that children will carry throughout their lives, providing them with a source of joy.
In short, the inclusion of music education in children’s lives from an early age is something that will benefit their overall development. It will not only improve their cognitive and physical skills but also enrich their emotional and social life, preparing them for a better future.
For our son we found a music school with highly trained teachers where he is taking music initiation classes. Among other things they are teaching him things like rhythm and introduction to musical notes using campaigns, xylophones, and other sensory elements. In less than a year we have seen great progress in our son.
